The Recreational Cup is the WYSA championship tournament for age groups U11 thru U18. Recreational teams in this age range compete within their districts to earn the right to compete in matches against other district champions with the goal of being crowned "State Champion" for the recreational leagues. LWYSA only assigns referees to preliminary round matches, and only to the younger ages. Elimination round and older matches are assigned by EKCSRA.

Do not get involved in a dispute at the field. The above are the rules. If a coach insists a player play, even though credentials appear incorrect, make sure both coaches are aware of what is happening, collect the player name, and file a Supplemental Report explaining what happened. And do what you can to get the match played with a minimum of hassle. It is not up to you to decide the consequences of a team not following the rules. You can use a line like "Coach, the rules I have tell me that the player is ineligible. I'm not going to fight with you about it. If you insist on playing the player, just let me make sure I have his name for my report." (Then WRITE IT DOWN - LEGIBLY. Even ask to spell it.) Then turn to the other coach and advise them - "Just remember - if you intend to protest the match, you need to let me know at the end of the match." Be calm and professional, and just collect the facts. I've encountered this before and EVERY time I have casually collected the facts so that the coaches are aware that a complete report will be filed, the coach with the ineligible player has opted not to play the player.
Don't lose track of the fact that we are here to support the game and get the kids out there playing. Let the tournament officials worry about all the little problems that come up. YOU just make sure you collect the information they need!
